April 29, 2025 – The 2025 Canada Federal election was held yesterday, April 28, and, as per local media projections Prime Minister Mark Carney-led Liberal party are likely to win the polls and on their way to form their fourth consecutive government. Networks CBC and CTV News have both projected the Liberals would form Canada's next government.

Carney’s Liberals were ahead of Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, while the New Democratic Party (NDP) was placed third. However, it is not yet clear if the Liberals would win a majority and as per CTV News projections, the party would fall short of it.

Conservative leader Poilievre has conceded defeat and congratulated Carney on his impending victory to the House of Commons to form the 45th Canadian Parliament.

According to CTV's latest projections, the Liberals have won 145 seats and are leading in 20 others; the Conservatives have bagged 134 seats and are leading in 13 others; the separatist Bloc Québécois, which only campaigned in the predominantly French-speaking province of Quebec, has won 22 seats and leading on one seat while NDP has won four seat and is ahead in three others. The Green Party has won one seat.

Carney had replaced Justin Trudeau as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada last month after the latter announced his decision to resign in March 2025. Carney centred his campaign on an anti-Trump message, convincing voters that his global financial experience positioned him to navigate a potential trade war and strengthen Canada’s international trade ties, reducing the country’s dependence on the US.

Meanwhile, the NDP had contested on 343 seats, but managed to get only eight. NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has announced he would step down as party leader.
