Signature annual My Schoolbag CSR programme expands to Udaipur for the first time
CapitaMalls Asia is pleased to announce a donation of Rs 300,000 to more than 200 underprivileged children in Udaipur, India in the first run of its “My Schoolbag” programme in the city. This programme is made possible with funding from CapitaLand Hope Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CapitaLand.
My Schoolbag is CapitaMalls Asia’s signature annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, where schoolbags containing school and daily necessities are given to underprivileged children. This programme was first extended to India in the city of Bangalore in 2011, benefitting 200 underprivileged children. Organising this programme in Udaipur this year further expands CapitaMalls Asia’s community outreach to children in the cities that it operates in.
The 214 children participating in the “My Schoolbag programme” in Udaipur are from Seva Mandir, a non-profit organisation focused on the development needs of the poor. They are visiting The Celebration Mall, Udaipur today for a half-day programme. Each of the children is receiving school necessities including a new schoolbag, stationery and school shoes worth a total of Rs 1500. In addition, they are being treated to snacks, movie and games at the mall.
Kevin Chee, Country Head, India of CapitaMalls Asia, said, “We are pleased to roll out My Schoolbag in Udaipur this year and bring these underprivileged children to watch a movie at our on-going Children Film Festival at the mall. Through this programme, the children will not only be given a headstart in school with the provision of the school necessities, but also be inspired through the activities to strive for a better life for their future. Our malls are an integral part of the communities they are in, and we are proud to be able to give back to the community by supporting the next generation.”
