Airport Authority, Udaipur has informed about a dramatic reduction in car parking charges at the airport. The parking charges have been slashed by 63% from Rs 55 to Rs 20.

The car parking rates are for 2 hours. The 8 minute free parking period provision will also stop. As per the 8 minute provision, no fees is charged if the time difference between entry and exit of the car from the airport is less than 8 minutes. Now, there will be no time limit for dropping/picking passengers and parking charges will be levied only when car is parked inside the parking lot.

The reduction in parking rates will significantly reduce the pressure on people to speed out of the airport. Currently the anxiety level of people is very high since 8 minutes is a very short period to pick up and drop and people can been seen speeding in and out of the airport. With parking charges dropping to Rs 20/- (versus Rs 55/-), a larger number of people may be expected to slow down and even bid a good farewell to near and dear ones they had come to drop off.

As per the AAI website, Udaipur airport has a capacity of holding 600 cars. While the prices have been slashed by 63%, it may still be possible that AAI Udaipur pockets larger revenue with higher number of people exercising the parking option.
