Opposing FDI and other government policies, chemists of the city led a one-day strike today under the banner of Udaipur District Chemists Organization. The protest was expressed in the form of a rally and handing over a letter to district administration in the name of Srikant Jena, Cabinet Minister.
Chemists are concerned over three main issues, including FDI’s penetration which caused them loss in business, policy of registering a pharmacist according to his work experience and demanding reformation in Chemist Act Section 19 which directly intends to hold a chemist responsible for any glitch of medicine.
According to the memorandum, there are 7.5 Lac people across the nation indulged in the business of selling medicine and 25 Lac families are dependent upon them. The present policies of government have already created challenges for this business community.
Hundreds of chemists gathered near MB Hospital and laid a rally that passed through several areas of the city and concluded outside collector’s office. A human chain was also made at Delhi Gate.
While strike remained successful, a common man suffered in the absence of medicinal help. Few government run chemists were open at hospital premises, but that could not help in serving everyone.
