The entire stretch on all sides of the intersection will also undergo beautification once the widening work is over
Udaipur, November 29, 2024 – Udaipur Nagar Nigam, in association with the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA), is taking steps to improve the city's traffic system and free the streets of holdups and congestions.
With Udaipur becoming a major global tourist attraction, the need is being felt to ensure that tourists to the city do not have to face traffic jams, etc. One major solution for this is getting rid of encroachments, eliminating bottlenecks and widening roads.
Several areas have already come under the radar of the administration and work to this effect, has already been done at the Fatehpura intersection, Shakti Nagar and Hathipol chauraha (where encroachments were removed recently).
The focus is now on Chetak Circle intersection. After inspection of the area on November 21 by City MLA Tarachand Jain and senior officials of the Municipality and UDA, a plan was drawn up to widen the roads around. Roadside carts, parked vehicles, bottlenecks and cabins were identified that needed removal.
The first step towards this was cutting down a huge neem tree near Paltan Masjid at the circle and freeing that side of the path of debris. Yesterday, the Municipal Corporation, after obtaining approval from the Tehsildar, removed the tree. Also, debris on the road was cleared and with this work, the width of the road has increased by 10 to 15 feet.
On the other hand, the work of removing utility poles on Hathipol Road has also begun. The electricity department has started detaching connections. After the disconnection, the poles will be removed thus getting rid of all obstructions on the road coming from Hathipol towards the intersection.
With the widening of this side of the chauraha, vehicles heading towards Fatehsagar and Shiksha Bhawan will not have to face traffic jams.
Currently, if the traffic light facing Hathipol Road is red, long queues of vehicles block the road. As a result, vehicles heading towards Fatehsagar but stuck in the queue have to wait for the light to turn green before they can proceed to the left. Now, after the road is widened, a pencil divider will reportedly be installed allowing traffic towards Fatehsagar to proceed smoothly without having to wait behind vehicles at the signal.
MLA Jain has directed officials to acquire 10 to 15 feet of land from the park at the intersection leading from Guru Gobind School towards Pahadi Bus Stand, so that the turn can be widened. There is 100 feet of land in front of Paltan Masjid, from which some land will also be acquired to build the road.
The entire stretch on all sides of the intersection will also undergo beautification once the widening work is over.
