Today on 17^thMay, a joint meeting of doctors was organized under the directives of the District Collector, Hemant Gera and the Health Officer, R.N Gherwa at the Zila Parishad conference hall on the issue of Female Feticide.

Doctors of Udaipur Division were called on to discuss various measures to keep a check on Female Feticide.

At the meeting, the doctors have been made aware about the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostics Technique (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994, which provides for the prohibition of sex selection, before or after conception.

The doctors have also been asked to keep complete records of every couple who asks for sex determination or anyone who appears to be suspicious so that they can be easily traced in the case of any female feticide that occurs.

Earlier, action was only on the Sonography Centers, which conducted sex determination and now it has been extended to every parent who asks for determining the sex of their child. Strict action will be initiated against them as well.

A machine called ‘Silent Observer’, which is used to record patients’ data online to help curb illegal sex determination was installed to initiate a Pilot Experiment in all Sonography machines of Kolhapur District last year. This was also discussed at the meeting and is now soon to be installed in Udaipur.
