People of Dangi Samaj submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police in relevance to the unsolved murder of Ganga Bai, a resident of Kanpur village.
Ganga Bai was killed on the afternoon of 24th December 2011 while working in the fields and though a report of the murder was filed at the Pratap Nagar Police Station, the police are yet to make any arrests in the case. The lack of progress in 5 month old case has left the residents of the city disappointed with the authorities, especially Dangi community.
They have also mentioned in the memorandum that the Land Mafia has increased their reign of terror in Kanpur and surrounding areas. These criminals continue to terrorize residents and seize their lands and do not hesitate to take extreme measures against anyone who attempts to resist them.
According to the document, the Land Mafia also has political connections which allow them to have a free hand to continue their illegal activities without the fear of any repercussions.
The members of Dangi Samaj have requested the police to appoint more personnel to address the matter soon and have clearly stated that if no action is taken against the perpetrators soon, the community will be forced to start a movement.
