Questions are being raised about how the Forest Department spent Rs 5 lakh on repairs at Neemuch Mata Temple in Udaipur. This money was part of an Rs 8 lakh budget given by UDA five months ago to fix broken railings, benches, and stairs at the temple. The Forest Department says it used Rs 5 lakh for temple repairs but has not provided details of the expenses.
No Clear Information Regarding Repairs
UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain has asked the Forest Department for a report on the spending for the second time. However, both UDA and the Forest Department are not giving clear information about the repairs done. Forest Ranger Parmendra Singh says he does not know what work was done before he joined, and the temple priest, Prakash, also has no knowledge of any major repairs.
BJP leaders are accusing the Forest Department of corruption, saying that with only 20 days left until the Navratri festival, neither department is fixing the temple’s problems. UDA engineers and Forest Department officials inspected the temple and found that only about Rs 1 lakh worth of repairs seem to have been done, despite claims of Rs 5 lakh being spent.
Barricades to be Placed Around Weak Areas
During the inspection, 16 problem areas were found that could cause trouble for visitors during Navratri. Engineers have asked for barricades to be placed around weak areas, and extra support is needed for a tin shed and some walls that might collapse.
