The incident at the Goram Ghat railway bridge in Rajasthan involving Rahul Mewada (22) and his wife Jhanvi (20) is indeed tragic.

Rahul and Jhanvi, along with Jhanvi's sister and brother-in-law, were visiting Goram Ghat laying on the Rajsamand -Pali border on  Saturday afternoon. They were on a heritage bridge built for a meter gauge train.

While on the bridge, Rahul and Jhanvi were reportedly taking photos. Suddenly, a meter gauge train approached the bridge from the Devgarh side. This startled the couple.Fearing for their safety due to the incoming train, Rahul and Jhanvi made the split-second decision to jump from the bridge, which stands about 90 feet above a deep ditch.

Both Rahul and Jhanvi sustained serious injuries from the fall into the ditch. They were initially taken to Fulad Hospital for first aid. Rahul, whose spinal cord was deeply injured, was referred to Jodhpur for specialized treatment. Jhanvi, who suffered a fractured leg, is undergoing treatment at Bangar Hospital in Pali.Jhanvi, was married to Rahul for about one and a half years and had recently moved to her in-laws' house.

Sunil Kumar Mahala, Senior Commercial Divisional Manager of Ajmer Railway Division, mentioned that the train's loco pilot had applied brakes upon seeing individuals on the bridge. However, the couple's fear of the approaching train led to their unfortunate decision to jump.

Authorities emphasize that walking on railway bridges is unsafe and warn against such actions.

This incident underscores the importance of safety awareness and caution, especially around railway infrastructure. The consequences of such impulsive actions can be severe, affecting not only the individuals involved but also their families and communities.
