26 August, Udaipur: A joint team of members of the CPI(M) District Committee of Udaipur and PUCL Rajasthan met the family of the victim and the accused and members of the family affected by the said 'Bulldozer Justice' in the Udaipur Stabbing incident. They also interacted with other residents of Udaipur, and collected factual information.
The delegation visited the house of the deceased, consoled his parents and paid tribute to the deceased boy and said that we all have to make efforts together to ensure that no such incident happens in the society in future. The delegation assured the family that they will assist them whatever legal and other help possible.
The delegation also visited the areas and properties affected by vandalism and arson in Udaipur post the incident.
The delegation found that this incident could have been prevented if the school administration had shown seriousness and sensitivity. The school administration is most responsible for the incident, said a joint statement from PUCL and CPI(M). The delegation questioned the investigation committee formed by the education department to investigate the incident and said that can justice be done if only a Principal is appointed as the investigation officer? Any other high ranking official should be appointed for investigation and a fair investigation should be conducted and the culprits should be punished.
In the course of their meetings, the joint delegation also interacted with the mother of the accused student and heard her laments. The mother of the accused student said that if my son has committed a crime, the law should punish him. Only a mother can understand the pain of losing her son, she added. She also expressed her anguish on her husband being taken to judicial custody. She said that she used to live in a rented house and due to the demolition of the house, she had no shelter left and is now living in her married daughter's house with her other disabled daughter.
She told that due to fear, no one is giving her a house on rent right now. She added that her son and the victim were good friends and both used to visit each other's house. How this altercation happened and how the fatal turn it took, is still a dilemma for the family.
During the interaction, Rashid Khan, the owner of the demolished house, said that he had bought this house in the year 2019 and he had given that house on rent. Due to the demolition of the house without reason, his life's earnings have been looted by the administration.
The delegation included PUCL National President Kavita Srivastava, State Secretary Bhanwar Meghvanshi, District President Arun Vyas, District Secretary Yakub Mohammad, CPI(M) District Secretary Rajesh Singhvi, City Secretary Hiralal Salvi, social workers Madhulika, Naveen Narayan and Sarfaraz Sheikh.
