Udaipur District Administration will be taking a call on implementing strict lockdown for a period of 7 to 14 days in the highly COVID-19 contaminated zones of Udaipur.

This decision will be taken today and the lockdown will be implemented with immediate effect and under strict parameters. The narrowed down areas, that have been surveyed in the last 15 days, include:

Badgaon, Fatehpura, Ambamata, Shobhagpura, Bhupalpura, Pratapnagar, University Road and Hiran Magri Sec 3,4,5 and 11, 14. Out of a total 1673 positive cases in the last 15 days ending 1 Dec, 959 (60%) belong to these areas. Hiran Magri Sec 3,4,5 bore the brunt with 192 positive cases, followed by 164 in Badgaon and the least being 53 in Bhupalpura.

However, this is another example of a knee jerk reaction, where people will once again be forced indoors in selected areas, and the other areas will continue to be exposed. As long as markets are operating without following norms of social distancing and strict control by the police, and as long as the borders are going unchecked, the COVID spread will not reduce.

Once selective lockdown is implemented, people will be able to leave their homes only to attend emergency requirements of health care, medicine. The administration will ensure supply of milk, ration, etc. to these areas and no commercial establishment will be allowed to operate within 100 meters of a COVID-19 positive home.
