Delhi Court Acquits Kejriwal & Sisodia in Liquor Policy Case

Clean chit for Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia comes as a setback to the CBI which has said it will file an appeal against the judgement in the High Court immediately

Feb 27, 2026 - A Delhi Court on Friday (February 27) acquitted former Delhi Chief Minister (CM) Arvind Kejriwal and former deputy Delhi CM Manish Sisodia and 21 others in the controversial Delhi excise (liquor policy) corruption case. This ruling has come as a setback to the CBI which has said it will file an appeal against the judgement in the High Court immediately.

The Delhi Court’s ruling came on the premise that the evidence was insufficient to sustain charges. The CBI’s chargesheet was rejected, with Special Judge Jitendra Singh of Rouse Avenue Court highlighting gaps and contradictions in the investigation.

"There was no overarching conspiracy or criminal intent in the excise policy," the Court said, adding that the prosecution failed to establish key allegations or present material evidence.

The Court had reserved its decision on February 12, following detailed arguments from both the CBI and the accused.

Kejriwal and Sisodia welcomed the verdict and described it as a vindication of truth. Speaking to reporters outside the Court, a visibly emotional Kejriwal, "We always said that truth ultimately wins. I always used to say that the truth is with us. A sitting chief minister was dragged out of his home and thrown into jail. Mud was flung at us.”

The excise policy case dates back to 2021-22 when a new liquor policy was launched by the AAP government then led by Kejriwal. The CBI had filed its first chargesheet in 2022 based on a complaint by the then Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena alleging irregularities in the excise policy and had alleged that Rs 100 crore was paid by a “south lobby” to influence the policy in its favour.
