February 5, 2025 – Voting is underway in 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi, today, February 5. This election is anticipated to be a tightly-contested triangular fight between the ruling party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and the Congress Party.

Voters have started to line up to cast their ballots for the eighth Assembly from 7:00 am. They will choose from among 699 candidates who are competing for 70 seats. Early prominent voters were President Droupadi Murmu, Union Ministers S Jaishankar, Hardeep Singh Puri, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi.

Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP will be fighting to come back for a third straight term, while the BJP will hope to regain power after a gap of 25 years. The Congress, on the other hand, will be struggling to avoid another election without winning a single seat.

The New Delhi seat is witnessing a high-profile three-way fight between former Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal, former BJP MP Parvesh Verma and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Another crucial seat is the Kalkaji seat which will witness a contest between Delhi CM Atishi, BJP’s Delhi unit chief Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress’s Alka Lamba.

Kejriwal has claimed his party will win at least 55 out of 70 seats. In the 2020 elections, AAP won 62 seats and 67 in 2015.
