Lake enthusiasts gathered on October 27,2024 to discuss the urgent need to assess the biological health of lakes. They voiced concerns about the growing pollution and darkening water in these natural reservoirs.
Dr. Anil Mehta pointed out that the white patches seen in certain areas of the lakes could be due to excessive growth of Phytoplankton, which are microscopic plants. This overgrowth may harm the lake’s ecosystem.
Tej Shankar Paliwal added that sewage entering the lake provides nutrients for weeds, leading to their rapid growth. This excessive weed growth poses serious risks to the lake’s health.
In the meeting it was further suggested that the Pollution Control Board should conduct regular chemical and biological tests of lake water to monitor its quality.
