In the forthcoming Assembly Elections across five states, including Rajasthan, a distinctive initiative is underway. Each assembly will feature a dedicated booth where the entire management will be overseen by differently-abled staff. This pioneering approach seeks to empower and involve individuals with diverse abilities in the electoral process. The prospect has created enthusiasm among these differently-abled people, who are keen and prepared to take on the responsibilities involved in managing these booths.

A key highlight is that the groundbreaking initiative originated during the 2018 Assembly elections in Udaipur, Rajasthan. There are claims that the innovation in Udaipur garnered acclaim and has since been adopted universally.

In the current elections, the Election Commission issued instructions to establish specific booths in all participating states. In alignment with this directive, Udaipur district has set up booths catering to differently-abled individuals in each of its eight constituencies.

These booths, designated for people with disabilities, aim to facilitate creative engagement and active participation of differently-abled individuals in the electoral process. The strategic placement of such booths in every constituency underscores a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in the democratic exercise.
