Udaipur, December 16,2024 - The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has issued an advisory warning the public about the growing threat of the 'Digital Arrest' scam. With the increasing use of digital payments, including UPI, scammers are targeting unsuspecting individuals, leading to significant financial losses.
According to reports, Indian citizens have lost Rs 120.3 crore due to such scams, as mentioned by Prime Minister Modi in a recent episode of Mann Ki Baat.
Be cautious if you receive calls claiming to be from government agencies such as the police, CBI, or Income Tax officers.
Scammers often impersonate officials by using police uniforms, government logos, or fake background sounds to appear legitimate.
They may ask for personal information or demand large sums of money, claiming it will resolve your alleged involvement in a crime.
If you receive suspicious calls or messages, avoid sharing personal details or making any payments. Report such incidents to the national cybercrime helpline at 1930 or visit the Department of Telecommunication’s website at https://sancharsaathi.gov.in/sfc/ to file a complaint.
