Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari announced an increase in financial support for specially-abled pregnant women under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). The support has risen from Rs 6,500/- to Rs 10,000/- for their first-born child. This change aims to help these women afford better nutrition during pregnancy and after childbirth.
OP Bunkar, Director of Integrated Child Development Services, explained that this extra amount is available for women with 40% or more disability.
Additionally, Bunkar announced the launch of “Nutrition Month” in the state. The initiative will focus on themes like anemia, growth monitoring, and nutrition. Awareness programs will be held at anganwadi centers, with a special calendar prepared for National Nutrition Month 2024.
Kumari stated, "The increased amount of Rs 10,000/- will help Divyang women access more nutritious food and improve the health of both mother and child. The extra Rs 3,500/- will be transferred directly to their bank accounts from the state fund."
