Spending my time on facebook is not merely a time pass for me. I use it more like a book than some entertainment site. Going through some community page I came across this event “Do Not Buy Petrol On Monday, 14 Feb 2011“. It requested people to not to buy petrol on Monday so as to show their anger against inflation and corruption. I found it interesting and clicked to know more about it.

This event was created by an Udaipurite, Mr. Dilip Sharma, Director Shaleen Jobs Pvt. Ltd. I had a quick look at various analytics and was impressed to see the response. It was about 2 am and there were 500+ people who confirmed their participation in this campaign. I also decided to join this and invite my friends. For the next 15 minutes I monitored the progress and was amazed to see around 30+ people who joined in.

The next afternoon, number increased to 700+. I was very excited and wanted to know how it was started. I contacted Mr. Dilip on facebook sending him a message and few questions.

He said that, he got this idea from an e-mail which he received a few days back and decided to implement it. Keeping in mind the power of facebook, he created an event and asked people to be a part of it. His motive behind this campaign is to bring people together and against increasing inflation and corruption following non-violence means.

His future plans include, organizing meetings, a cycle day once in a month, carry out “Do Not Buy Petrol” activity on a weekly/monthly basis considering the availability of time.
