In an extremely unusual situation, an Assistant Sub-Inspector was taken for an unintended ride on the bonnet of a car.

The incident occurred today evening at around 6:30, when the Police was doing their regular barricade at the Thokar Chauraha near the B.N. College.

ASI Dungar Singh was heading the team of constables on location, when they saw an unnumbered white colored Maruti 800 coming towards them.

The car was carrying three persons including the driver.  When the car stopped, the Police asked for identification papers as the number plates were missing.  The driver, on the pretext of looking for papers started fumbling in the car, and the Police team turned away momentarily to take care of other matters.

Taking this opportunity the driver stepped on the gas and the car surged forward.  ASI Dungar Singh who was right in front of the car, fell on the bonnet and grasped on to the bonnet with both hands, the back on the bonnet and face towards the sky.

In what could be mistaken to be a movie stunt, the car carried the ASI in this condition for approximately two kilometers.  The other members of the Police pursued the car that was on high speed across the entire route, which passed through Sunderwas, ITI Ghata and then into the Bohra Ganeshji locality.

Observing the alarming situation, the onlookers also started chasing the car, which finally was made to stop near the Bohra Ganeshji mandir.  All three passengers of the car being drunk, stumbled out of the car.  While two of the passengers managed to abscond, the driver, who was completely drunk, was pulled down by the crowd.

After the initial thrashing received on the spot by the crowd who had gathered there and the police team, the driver was taken to the Police Station at Pratapnager, where he was questioned.

The driver revealed his name to be Zoravar Singh Karan Singh aka Banna, resident of Salara village, Sarada.  He is currently staying at Ravji Ka Hata near Jagdish Mandir.

He also disclosed the name of the other two passengers as Lokesh Sahu Bogra, son of a village Sarpanch (name of father and village not being made available due to the convict being extremely drunk) and Raju.

Zoravar Singh has been kept in police custody till further investigation is completed.  The ASI, who was hurt in the process, was taken to hospital and has been discharged after initial first aid.
