In Udaipur, the installation of high-security number plates has sped up the issuance of e-challans. However, vehicle owners who have not updated their mobile numbers on the transport department's portal may face complications. Many vehicle owners are currently unaware that e-challans have been issued for their vehicles. As a result, they may find that the penalty and challan amount are recovered from them when they deal with transport-related matters.
Once an e-challan is issued, any objections must be registered within seven days. Objections can include issues such as whether the vehicle belongs to the owner or if the number plate is incorrectly affixed to another vehicle. Failure to pay the challan amount within 80 days results in a penalty.
It is mandatory for all vehicles to be registered on the transport department's portal. Although many vehicles are registered, often the mobile numbers listed are of agents or previous owners. Consequently, notifications about challans may not reach the current vehicle owner. It has been observed that some vehicle owners have incorrect mobile numbers in their registration copies.
To renew vehicle insurance and obtain fitness certification, any pending challans must be cleared. Updating the correct mobile number on the portal allows traffic police to notify vehicle owners of issues like no-parking violations and helps prevent further challan actions.
Vehicle owners whose mobile numbers are not updated can correct this by visiting the portal, going to the online services section, selecting "Vehicle Related" options, and updating their number through the provided app features.
