July 27, 2026: The debate over ethanol-blended petrol has taken a new turn with the emergence of the E-20 Janata Party, a social media-driven group that is gaining attention across the country. The organisation has surfaced after the online popularity of the "Cockroach Janata Party," which drew attention during the controversy over the NEET question paper leak.
The E-20 Janata Party is using public concerns over ethanol-blended petrol as the centre of its campaign. Many vehicle owners have claimed that the use of E-20 fuel has reduced mileage and caused damage to vehicle engines. At the same time, allegations related to the ethanol business and the reported increase in the assets of Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari's sons have also become part of the political debate. However, these allegations have not been proven, and there has been no official finding establishing any wrongdoing.
The organisation has rapidly gained popularity on social media, although its founders have not yet been identified publicly.
E-20 Janata Party Sees Rapid Growth On Social Media
According to reports, the E-20 Janata Party has attracted thousands of followers within a short period. Its official account on X has gained around 42,500 followers, while its Instagram account has crossed 1.25 lakh followers. The numbers continue to rise as more users engage with posts related to the E-20 fuel debate.
Despite its growing online presence, very little is known about the people behind the organisation. The identity of its founder or core members has not been revealed so far. Even so, the group's campaign has gained attention because it focuses on an issue that has already become a topic of public and political discussion.
Supporters of the campaign continue to raise concerns about the impact of ethanol-blended petrol on vehicle performance. At the same time, the government has maintained that the ethanol blending programme is aimed at reducing fuel imports, lowering emissions, and supporting India's energy security goals.

AAP Joins Protest Against Ethanol-Blended Petrol
The issue has now moved beyond social media and entered mainstream politics. On Monday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal urged the Central government to reconsider its policy on ethanol-blended petrol.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal claimed that many people are facing problems because of E-20 fuel and appealed to the Prime Minister to take immediate action.
"I request the government to solve this problem before it becomes a big problem. People are in a lot of trouble, people's vehicles are being damaged, mileage is decreasing. I request the Prime Minister to take immediate action."
AAP has also announced a public programme against the E-20 fuel policy at Delhi's Town Hall on August 1. Kejriwal said he expects thousands of people to participate in the event. The party has also invited supporters from outside Delhi to join the programme online.
With social media campaigns gaining momentum and political parties taking up the issue, the debate over ethanol-blended petrol is expected to continue in the coming weeks. Whether the government responds to the growing criticism or sticks to its current policy remains to be seen.
