Elon Musk Eyes Massive India Market with Starlink Push
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by Meghalaya government officials with Starlink India recently in New Delhi and a pilot project is currently underway in the State
April 6, 2026 – American businessman and entrepreneur Elon Musk is steadily expanding his customer base in India. After entering India last year with his automobile company Tesla, Musk’s satellite internet company Starlink is now preparing to launch services in the country, aiming to provide high-speed satellite internet.
A pilot project is currently underway in Meghalaya after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by officials with Starlink India recently in New Delhi. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has hailed the MoU with Starlink saying it would help improve healthcare access, expand learning opportunities for students and be an advantage to farmers and rural communities.
Starlink has also already entered into similar agreements in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa.
Final pricing, spectrum allocation and regulatory approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) are still pending.
