Udaipur, March 25, 2025 - The Ayad River restoration project, worth Rs 72 crore, has come to a halt, leading to fresh encroachments by the land mafia. Taking advantage of the stalled work, some individuals have started dumping soil into the riverbed, threatening the river’s natural flow.
Near the Bhupalpura bridge, a land mafia group has poured a large quantity of soil into the river. This dumping has been happening for a long time, yet the Udaipur Smart City officials and the Municipal Corporation remain unaware of the situation.
Earlier, on the other side of Bhupalpura, another landholder had similarly filled the riverbed with soil, further contributing to the destruction of the river. The lack of strict monitoring has allowed such illegal activities to continue without any action.
Residents fear that without immediate intervention, the Ayad River could suffer irreversible damage. Authorities are urged to take strict action and resume the restoration project to prevent further encroachments.
