Pranab Mukherjee, Union Finance Minister visited Mohanlal Sukhadhia University (MLSU) for its Golden Jubilee Celebration and inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Gate on the occasion.
Mr. Mukherjee, in his main address, remembered Mohanlal Sukhadhia as a potent leader and politician as well as the lead protagonist who was responsible for developing Rajasthan to its current position.
The Finance Minister spoke on various issues and discussed the successful democracy that India is today. He said that the people of India are devoted and strong willed citizens, which continue to empower our nation to move forward in the global world.
He also discussed the solidarity of the nation by elaborating on the Jammu and Kashmir elections and admiring the citizens who came out and voted even after receiving death threats from the terrorist organizations operating in the vicinity.
He also congratulated our country’s hardworking farmers and the policy-makers who have made India the highest wheat producing country in the world.
He, however, expressed his concern on the recent, yet frequent postponement of the Lok Sabha’s day session. He said that, as a citizen and a member of parliament, everyone has a right to speak and criticize in session but denying other members an opportunity to express their views does not satisfy the spirit of free speech.
Professor Indra Vardhan Trivedi, Vice Chancellor of the MLSU then directed the attention of the FM towards the need of a Multi-Media Centre in the University for accelerating the students’ research work.
Other dignitaries who had attended the celebration include Mangilal Garasia, Rajasthan Sports Minister, Sajjan Kattara, MLA Rajasthan and Pradeep Singh, a Board Memebers, also attended the program.
Akhilesh Joshi, CEO of Hindustan Zinc Ltd. honored Suresh Sharma, former President of MLSU Arts Department and Jagat Mehta, Former Foreign Secretary. Mehta, due to certain health issues could not make it to the program and instead, Vijay Mehta accepted the award on his behalf.
Paramveer Singh, Central Student Union President as well as Dilip Dingh Sisodia, Student Leader were also present and welcomed the Finance Minister at the university.
