Two major accidents raise questions on Udaipur-Pindwara Highway safety; vehicles were fined and seized for breaking traffic rules
Udaipur, January 6, 2025 - Two consecutive road accidents on the Udaipur-Pindwara highway have highlighted safety concerns. The incidents have raised serious questions about the role of the Highway Authority and the Transport Department in ensuring safe travel.
On Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Transport Department intensified its crackdown on violators. A total of 43 vehicles were fined, and 25 vehicles were seized for breaking traffic rules. This action resulted in the collection of Rs 4.25 lakh in fines.
The enforcement drive began on Friday, during which 45 vehicles were fined, and 26 were seized. Despite these actions, negligence among jeep and auto operators continues unabated. Passengers of overloaded vehicles fled when stopped by RTO teams. Due to the strict checks, several taxi drivers avoided using the highway.
The Udaipur-Pindwara highway faces challenges due to its hilly terrain. The steep slopes in the area make it difficult for trailers and trucks to maintain control, often resulting in accidents.
On Friday, near Malwa Ka Chora, a trailer collided with a tempo. The tragic accident claimed the lives of 5 people and injured 8 others.
Another accident occurred on Saturday near Khokhariya Ki Naal. An out-of-control trailer struck a bike and a mini-bus. This incident resulted in the death of a young woman and left 10 people injured.
