On February 6, 2023, the Naval variant of the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) made its maiden landing on the country's first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC), INS Vikrant. 

"A historical milestone achieved by the Navy towards Aatma Nirbhar Bharat as Naval pilots carry out landing of LCA [Navy] onboard INS Vikrant," Navy spokesperson Cdr. Vivek Madhwal said. 

This is also the first time a fixed-wing aircraft has landed on the carrier as part of its operationalization. A twin-engine MiG-29K fighter jet landed and took off after that. The 42,800-tonne INS Vikrant was commissioned into the Navy in September of last year. The aviation trials took place after the aircraft was commissioned.
