First Monsoon Rain Washed Lake city Udaipur
Heavy-medium showers have been drenching the area for the last more than 10 hours and are expected to continue further in the day.
After enduring scorching heat this summer with the temperature reaching up to 45 degree, the South-Western parts of Rajasthan, including Udaipur district, have finally been blessed with rain.
Heavy-medium showers have been drenching the area for the last more than 10 hours and are expected to continue further in the day.
The earlier prediction of the monsoon reaching the area on 15th June was proven to be false as it finally arrived a week later. However, a more accurate prediction of heavy rains in South and South-West Rajasthan had been made on late Tuesday by the meteorological department.
According to the city’s irrigation department, from 8am yesterday to 8am today, Udaipur received a total of 24.4 mm of rain and the surrounding areas of Jharol and Madar Bada received 26 mm and 40 mm of rain respectively.
The total rain received during this time ranged widely from different regions. The Wagad region received minimum rainfall with the areas of Dungarpur, Sagwada and Aspur received 0.1 mm, 0.4 mm and 0.3 mm respectively. The areas of Nimbahera received the highest amount of rainfall with 73mm of precipitation followed by Chittorgarh which received 51.5 mm.
The coming of the monsoons has always been important to the city of lakes, not just for relief from the ongoing heat, but also because the city’s tourism is heavily dependent on its lakes which get refilled at this time of year.
Though the much awaited monsoon showers have relieved the residents of the city, they have also brought common problems that follow this occasion. Many parts of the city faced long power cuts, water logging on the roads as well as a few incidents of felling of trees.
In addition to that, all water bodies of the city, both big and small, reportedly contain more water than the safe level; an average amount of rain will easily be able to overflow these water bodies across the city.
