India’s First Wheelchair-Friendly Safari Vehicle at Ranthambore
The vehicle is a re-modified Gypsy vehicle fitted with a ramp for easy entry and exit of wheelchairs; developed by hotelier Balendu Singh
Feb 10. 2026 - The popular Ranthambore Tiger Reserve has now become the first tiger reserve in the country where a special tourist vehicle will be operated for visitors who need wheelchairs. This vehicle has been developed by hotelier Balendu Singh.
A trial run was conducted after which the Forest Department approved the vehicle for park tours. Its operation is likely to begin from the upcoming tourist season.
The vehicle is a re-modified Gypsy vehicle fitted with a ramp for easy entry and exit of wheelchairs. It is fitted with a wheelchair which can easily be moved onto the ramp using an electronic switch and winch system. Folding seats have also been provided in the vehicle to accommodate wheelchairs, allowing tourists to either sit in their chair or transfer to a seat. For safety, seat belts have been installed.
The standard vehicles available at the park for safaris are a six-seater Gypsy or a 20-seater open bus for large groups.
