Medicines will be available for free of cost from 2^nd October 2011 at every government hospital, dispensary and health center of Rajasthan. The decision came under action after the Government of Rajasthan’s pivotal step towards social welfare.

B.N. Sharma Principal Secretary of Health Department informed this in a regional level meeting held today at Krishi Nideshalaya’s conference hall. B.N. Sharma told that to make this program affective Rajasthan Health Services Corporation has been founded, this program will directly benefit deprived and needy patient.

He directed all Medical Colleges and State run health care centers to start preparing for this program with all effective measures to be taken to make this a successful social service.

All district collectors, CMHO, state level health officers and block health officers were present in this meeting.

Basic medicines are still far from almost 65% of Indians population, in such a condition this step from Rajasthan Government is praise worthy endowment.

B.N. Sharma has also directed all doctors to prescribe only generic medicines to their patients, if any doctor found prescribing non-generic medicine; he has to clarify with appropriate reason to the department of health.

Dr. Samit Sharma – Director (NRHM) said that “Doctors have to take medicines from drug ware houses located in state’s head offices. All commonly use medicines are included in free distribution of medicines; in future we are also going to include specialty drugs in the list”.
