As the academic year reaches its midway point in state government schools, the education department has been prompted to ensure the provision of free uniforms, especially with the upcoming semi-annual exams. The state government has released guidelines for the distribution of free uniforms to students from first to eighth grade under Mukhyamantri Free School Uniform Distribution Scheme. The scheme was recently declared by CM Ashok Gehlot. The uniform distribution process is scheduled to take place soon in government and aided schools throughout the state, including various districts.

Notably, the distribution of free uniforms to students in government schools across the state faced a delay this year due to compliance with the election. However, efforts are underway to expedite the process and ensure that eligible students receive their uniforms without further delay. The government has allocated Rs 500 crore for this scheme.

The district-wide initiative aims to provide uniform fabric to students across all government schools from pre-primary to 8th grade. The stiching cost of Rs 200/- will also be provided by the government.

In the Udaipur district alone, a substantial enrollment of 3,99,757 students is recorded across 3,861 schools. Within this student population, 2,56,743 belong to the first to fifth-grade category, while 1,43,014 students are pursuing education from sixth to eighth grade.

The education department has devised a plan to provide two sets of uniforms to all students enrolled in government schools for the academic session 2023-24. The initiation of this plan by the Rajasthan School Education Board involved events held in district headquarters before the model code of conduct was enforced for the assembly elections. Unfortunately, the implementation of the plan had to be temporarily halted due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct. Subsequent to the elections, the education department has now issued directives to begin the necessary preparations for the plan's implementation.
