Udaipur, January 21, 2025 - The ongoing work to clean and beautify the Ayad riverbed is facing setbacks as some residents in the Bhupalpura region are dumping construction debris directly into the riverbed. Despite the area being fenced off, certain individuals are using tractors and trolleys to dispose of debris from under-construction buildings. Photos and videos of this illegal activity have gone viral on social media.
Fencing and Beautification Efforts Are in Vain
Recently, Rs 72 crores were spent to beautify a five-kilometer stretch of the Ayad river, which included laying grass along the riverbed. However, this area is now being misused for dumping debris. Garbage disposal has also been reported in certain sections of the river once again.
Authorities Respond to Encroachments
City MLA Tarachand Jain had earlier directed officials to take action against encroachments along the Ayad river. Officials have marked one end of the river with red signs to warn residents. However, at the other end, in the Ashok Nagar-Bhupalpura area, influential individuals are allegedly intervening, and municipal officials have claimed that no action has been taken due to fear of confronting those responsible.
Suggestions for Uniform Action
Residents suggest that authorities should take a more uniform approach by marking all encroachments along the five-kilometer stretch and acting against them together. They believe that marking only one end and acting in a limited area is not enough.
