Udaipur, December 12,2024 - Google has unveiled its annual "Year in Search 2024," showcasing the top trending queries worldwide. The report highlights the topics that captured global attention, ranging from sporting events and politics to entertainment and viral trends.
In India, cricket and politics dominated search trends. The Indian Premier League (IPL), ICC T20 World Cup, and the BJP were among the top-searched keywords. Record-breaking temperatures and concerns over global warming also became trending topics.
Notable personalities like industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata were widely searched by Indians. Indian movies also drew attention, with "Stree 2," starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, becoming the top-searched film, followed by "Kalki 2898 AD."
Globally, soccer and cricket led the search trends. Major sporting events like Copa America, UEFA European Championship, and ICC T20 World Cup topped the charts. The Paris Olympics and excessive heat waves also trended significantly.
In athlete searches, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif topped the list, followed by Mike Tyson after his fight with Jake Paul.
The US election was a major topic globally, with searches about President-elect Donald Trump dominating. Trump, who made a historic comeback, was the most-searched person, followed by Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Vice President Kamala Harris.
In entertainment, Disney and Pixar’s "Inside Out 2" was the top-searched movie globally. On TV, Netflix's "Baby Reindeer" led search trends, while Kendrick Lamar’s "Not Like Us" dominated song searches.
Among notable personalities who passed away in 2024, Liam Payne, Toby Keith, and O.J. Simpson led search trends.
