Heavy rain showers on Friday proved to be awesome for the lakes of Udaipur city. With people rejoicing with the overflowing Swaroop Sagar and Fatehsagar close to being full, the colonies near Goverdhan Sagar were in for trouble. The reason was that Goverdhan Sagar which has a capacity of 9 feet was flowing beyond its level and crossed 10 feet.

The lower areas and the roads were almost flooded with water and it was a gruesome task for the teams of Municipal Corporation to create a passage for water to save the masses. The catchments had plenty of rainfall on Friday night which took the level of Goverdhan Sagar to 10+ feet. Since the drains and nallahs are choked, water started flooding the roads which created a traffic jam. The most affected colony was Vasant Vihar. When the teams reached to create a passage for water, the colony near Vasant Vihar got agitated as the teams initially decided to cut the road for clearing out water. The residents of the nearby colony said that if the road is cut, it would affect their houses as water would directly enter their area. Since both areas were in agitation, Commissioner of Municipal Corporation was informed of the situation. Police teams were sent to the area and JCB were called for after which relief work could be started.

This situation brought back the memories of the flood situation that occurred in 2006 in the areas of Goverdhan Vilas, Vasant Vihar, New Vasant Vihar, Govind Nagar, Phoota Talab area, Santosh Nagar, Gayariyawas and Tekri-Madri link road. Boats had to be operated in these areas to rescue the public.
