Government approves charges for COVID treatment at private hospitals in Rajasthan

COVID patients who are having moderate to acute symptoms will first be given an option for treatment at government hospitals. But if they preferred to be admitted and treated at private hospitals, the following rates will apply.

Strict compliance to the orders issued by the government has to be ensured by the private hospitals, failing which legal and regulatory action will be initiated against the private hospital.

Chief Medical and Health Officer, Udaipur, Dr Dinesh Kharadi has issued a directive to all private hospitals in the district to follow the rate structure as approved by the Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Government of Rajasthan, per the orders issued on 3 September.

In a conversation with UdaipurTimes, Dr Dinesh said that COVID patients with moderate to severe symptoms will be given the option for admission and treatment at the government run COVID care centers in the district. If the patient wishes to take treatment at a private hospital, the admission and treatment will be chargeable. However, the private hospital will not charge any additional amount apart from that which is defined by the government as per its directive today.

As per the directive, private hospitals will be obligated to follow the defined rate structure and treatment facilities as laid down in the orders of the Principal Secretary, Medical and Health, Government of Rajasthan.  These directives are as follows:

Treatment facility and rates at all private hospitals:

  • For moderate sickness: Isolation beds including supportive care and oxygen
    • Indicative stay period: 7 days
    • NABL accredited hospitals: Rs 5,500 (including cost of PPE Rs 1,200)
    • Non NABL accredited hospitals: Rs 5,000 (including cost of PPE Rs 1,200)
  • For severe sickness: HDU / ICU without need for ventilator care
    • Indicative stay period: 10 days
    • NABL accredited hospitals: Rs 8,250 (including cost of PPE Rs 1,200)
    • Non NABL accredited hospitals: Rs 7,500 (including cost of PPE Rs 1,200)
  • For very severe sickness: ICU with ventilator care (invasive / non-invasive)
    • Indicative stay period: 10 days
    • NABL accredited hospitals: Rs 9,900 (including cost of PPE Rs 1,200)
    • Non NABL accredited hospitals: Rs 9,000 (including cost of PPE Rs 1,200)

Following are inclusions in the above rates:

  • Consultation fee
  • Nursing charges
  • Bed and food (breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning tea, evening tea
  • COVID-19 kit on discharge as per prescribed treatment guidelines
  • All forms of vitals monitoring and physiotherapy charges
  • PPE kit
  • All inclusive medicines and consumables
  • Bio Medical waste management and other protective items
  • Faeces tray
  • Sputum tray
  • Housekeeping charges
  • IV/IM charges
  • All documentation charges
  • Bed side procedures such as Riles tube, Catheterisation, Intubation
  • All inclusive tests (biochemistry, microbiology, pathology, imaging)

Medicines that are included in the above charges:

  • For mild/moderate/severe sickness:
    • Tab Hcq 400mg (dosage: 2 per day); Tab Hcq 200mg (dosage: 2 per day); Tab Lopinavir 200mg / Ritonavir 50mg (dosage: 4 per day); Cap Doxycyclin 100mg (dosage: 2 per day); Cap Oseltavamir 75mg (dosage: 2 per day); Tab Ivermectin 12mg (dosage: 1 per day); Tab Zink 50mg (doosage: 1 per day); Tab Vitamin C 500mg (dosage: 3 per day); Tab N Acetylcysteine 600mg (dosage: 3 per day)
  • In addition to the above, for moderare and severe cases, two Injections, namely Inj Dexamethasone 10mg, once a day and Inj Celtrixone 1gm, twice per day are included

Medicines that are not included in the above charges:

  • For moderate cases:
    • Inj Remdesivir 100mg (Rs 4000 per unit) once per day; Inj. Tociluzumab 8mg per kg body weight (Rs 81,090 per 800gm) once per day; Tab Enoxaparin (LMW) 40mg (Rs 418) once per day and Plasma therapy 200ml (Rs 16,500 for 200ml) once per day.
  • For severe cases:
    • Inj Remdesivir 100mg (Rs 4000 per unit) dosage 6 per day; Inj. Tociluzumab 8mg per kg body weight (Rs 81,090 per 800gm) max twice per day; Tab Enoxaparin (LMW) 40mg (Rs 418) once per day and 200ml plasma therary 200ml (rs 16,500 for 200ml) once per day.

All tests, at the time of admission, and daily tests are included in the above charges. However, the following tests, which are needed to be administered to moderate and severe symptomatic are not included and will be charged as under, if they are administererd:

IL-6 (Rs 1,300); CT-Thorex (Rs 1955); 2D Echo (Rs 1242) and Procalcitonin (Rs 1400)

PLEASE NOTE:

  • All tests that need to be administered in case of any comorbidities will be charged separately as per CGHS rule.
  • COVID patients have to be necessarily administered treatment as per the guidelines stipulated in the orders issued by the Chief Secretary. If there is a need for any deviation in the treatment procedure, the hospital has to take permission from the divisional health committee within 6 hours of such deviation.
  • Additional prodecures that might need to be administered during treatment, such as additional tests, interventional processes like central line, chemo port, nroncoscopy, biopsy, asaitic plural taping, etc. should be charged as per the CGHS approved rates.
  • High end drugs and medical consumables like immunoglobulin, meropenam, parentral nutrition, central line, chemo port, arterial line, etc will not be charged above MRP.
  • A maximum of Rs 2,500 can be charged for dead body storage and carriage.
  • The private hospitals need to ensure that the patient is charged the lower of the approved or actual price.
