Hiroshima Day

Udaipur -  Hiroshima Day is observed every year on August 6 to remember the tragic event of World War II in 1945 when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan’s Hiroshima which led to extreme destruction and loss of life. This year, the world is commemorating the 79th anniversary of the day that changed the course of history.

This day serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of nuclear weapons and the importance of working to make this world free of such weapons of mass destruction. Hiroshima Day is also observed to remember the colossal loss of life during the Hiroshima bombing and reflects on the humanitarian consequences of nuclear warfare.

August 6th, 2024 marks a poignant day in history, a day when the world pauses to reflect on the devastating consequences of nuclear warfare. It is a day of remembrance, solemnity, and a call for peace, commemorating the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 during World War II. On this day, nations, communities, and individuals across the globe come together to honor the memory of those who lost their lives, and to reaffirm their commitment to a future free from the horrors of nuclear weapons.

In this series the various people in Udaipur too observed the day and gathering outside the Udaipur Collectorate on Tuesday.

On this occasion tens of social workers and NGOs gathered outside the Collectorate and remembered all those who died in the nuclear attack on this day at the two cities of Japan.

While speaking on this occasion veteran Lawyer of Udaipur Arun Vyas said " We took this initiative to remember all those people who lost their lives in the nuclear attack which was done by America on Japan even after the Japanese army surrendered in front of them . It was the first nuclear attack on the world which shock the world and the aftermath was such that the three generations of the people remained effected and born with disabilities. We believed that it was just for the benefits of powerful countries and for their political benefits, what happened that day was against humanity and sad . It is completely against humanity and against environment as well. unlike that the war that is going on between Israel and Hamas or the war between Russia and Ukraine the America is selling weapons to these countries and making huge money. And on the other side it is talking about peace and seize fire. If our government says that cigarrate smoking is injurious to health then why not it is just shutting down its factories , why there are double standards. Be it deforestation , cutting of mountains or destroying the nature just for the sake of making money or providing benefits to few of the big business tycoons, so today's demonstration is to educate and make the people aware about the importance of nature. We want that the war at Gaja and Ukraine should stop, if in a country like America people could stand against the attacks on Hamas and against the killing we also want that the killings should be stopped."

Notably the bombings of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, remain among the most tragic events in human history. The atomic bombs dropped on these cities by the United States led to unprecedented destruction, claiming tens of thousands of lives instantly and many more in the months and years that followed due to radiation exposure and related injuries. The images of devastation, the stories of survivors, and the long-term consequences serve as a stark reminder of the catastrophic impact of nuclear weapons.

Across the world, Hiroshima and Nagasaki Day is observed with various ceremonies, vigils, and educational events. These events not only honor the victims and survivors but also aim to raise awareness about the ongoing threat posed by nuclear weapons. In Japan, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki hold solemn ceremonies at their respective peace memorials, attended by survivors, government officials, and representatives from around the world. The Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park, with its iconic Atomic Bomb Dome, is particularly significant, serving as a powerful symbol of hope and resilience.
