Hundreds Attend Freedom Fighter Hukumraj Mehta's Funeral
Esteemed freedom fighter and social worker Hukumraj Mehta passed away on July 10, 2011 aged 87. His funeral procession took place today with utmost honor. The procession witnessed people turning in large number to give a final adieu to the revered freedom fighter.
Esteemed freedom fighter and social worker Hukumraj Mehta passed away on July 10, 2011 aged 87. His funeral procession took place today with utmost honor. The procession witnessed people turning in large number to give a final adieu to the revered freedom fighter.
The procession started at 4:30 PM from his residence at Ambamata Scheme , and the final rites were performed at the cremation ground at Rani Road with national honour in presence of dignitaries of the city.
Hukamraj Mehta was born on 12 Januray 1924 in Jodhpur. A patriot by birth he got inspired by Mahatam Gandhi’s movement of Satyagrah and was jailed many a times. He was also jailed in 1978 , in an political turmoil, when the then prime minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi was allegedly arrested and was expelled from the parliament.
A lawyer by profession he practiced law from 1952-2000,he was also the president of Udaipur Lawyer’s Association.
As a citizen of Udaipur he was associated with number of organizations notable among them are Seva Mandir, Lake Conservation Committee, Dr Mohan Sinha Mehta Memorial trust. Hukumraj Mehta is survived by 2 sons and a daughter.
