Hundreds of demonstrators, under the aegis of CPI, rallied demanding affordable housing or land allocation. The demonstrators claimed to have filled a number of forms under various schemes of both Central and State Government, but a very few of them have reaped benefits of the schemes.
According to Rajesh Singhvi, General Secretary, CPI, there are around 20 thousand such families that do not own a house or any piece of land. It may be noted that UIT generally adopts lottery system for allotting affordable houses.
Rajesh Singhvi added that UIT must ensure that only those families that belong to lower income group must be included in lottery procedure. Besides, UIT must discourage auctioning of its land to private parties, as these auctions encourages land mafia to grab land and trade them at higher prices.
