With the recent decision from High Court and clearance from UIT, the construction of new IIM Udaipur campus at Balicha will finally begin soon. The thought process of how the interior of the campus can be made cultural and eco-friendly has already been started by the students.
As one of the local news daily reports, the upcoming campus of IIMU will sport Zero Waste and Ground Connect examples in its interiors. A model classroom has already been setup by IIMU students in the present campus of IIM at MLSU.
The model classroom adorns Bamboo and Handloom material on walls, crushed glass on roof and drapes from paper.
Use of Bamboo and Handloom will particularly signify the cultural aspect of IIMU and to remind students to connect with their roots. Also, the color combination will embrace the corporate environment.
The roof is jeweled with crushed bottle glass, which is obtained from recycling the glass bottles. The classroom is soundproof and the concept is to promote recycling.
The drapes have been made out of paper, used from magazines after recycling. Apart from promoting recycling, the drapes also proves to be very useful as they filter the outside light in near perfect manner, that not even disturbs students while reading but also provides ample lighting.
Architect & Project Manager, Akshay Singhvi explored Udaipur city with a team of students to closely observe the cultural pattern and finally designed this model classroom.
