Udaisagar illegal construction

Administration in Udaipur took notice of the issue involving the filling of Udaisagar Lake with sand on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Although efforts were made to empty the lake's bed, the operation was not completely successful.

The land mafia has undertaken extensive construction activities to develop a resort on the shores of Udaisagar Lake. Despite being designated as a no-construction zone, the mafia has erected 10 to 12 huts in the area, blatantly disregarding environmental regulations. To accommodate the resort's expansion and prevent erosion caused by the lake's water, the mafia has started dumping truckloads of sand directly into Udaisagar Lake.  District Collector Arvind Poswal promptly dispatched Girwa Tehsildar to investigate. Upon inspection, Tehsildar Sudesh Mehta confirmed the incident. Measures were taken to remove the sand using JCBs and level the area, but only minimal action was undertaken at the administrative level.

In response, the Tehsildar's team received directives to enforce strict legal actions if such incidents occur in future. District Collector Arvind Poswal assured swift administrative action against any complaints related to lake filling or mountain cutting.

Meanwhile, the High Court has intervened, demanding a comprehensive report on mountain excavation in Udaipur and its environs. The court seeks clarification on the administration's response to mountain cutting, encroachments on lakes and ponds, and the authorization behind such actions. Additionally, the court has requested access to Google Maps and photographs for further scrutiny, yet no administrative steps have been taken in response to this demand.
