In the interest of public health and social responsibility, a majority of hoardings displaying advertisements related to products including ice creams, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco at Fatehsagar have been removed by the Revenue Team of the Udaipur Municipal Council.
This action was taken in adherence to the orders issued by the Court, which says that hoardings or display of advertisements of cigarettes, liquor and tobacco at public places is disallowed.
Another factor that has resulted in this action is that all the shops at the Fatehsagar Bombay Bazaar and in the nearby areas are owned by the Municipality and a month charge is levied on each of the shop operators. It is alleged that the shop operators augment revenue that is given to them by each of the principals, i.e. the ice cream, beverage, cigarette and tobacco companies, which the shop operators have not informed the UMC about.
A team from the Udaipur Municipal Council, led by the Revenue Officer of the UMC, M L Saamar conducted this operation.
