The Union Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that people in the age group of 45 and above will be vaccinated from 1st April onwards. This Wednesday, the Ministry stressed on the importance of vaccination for people in this age group.
Why should people in the age group of 45 and above be vaccinated whether they have co-morbidities or not? The Union Health Secretary clarified that people who are 45 and above are very vulnerable to this disease and 88 percent of the fatalities in the country were taking place in the age group of 45 years.
The Secretary Rajesh Bhushan while addressing a press conference said that more than 5.08 crore doses of the vaccine have been administered to beneficiaries till now and now that the vulnerable age group people i.e. 45 years and above must be vaccinated with or without co-morbidities.
It may be noted that that the double mutant strain has entered India and it has been found in 200 samples in Maharashtra. As per information, double mutation is when 2 mutated strains of a virus come together to form a 3rd strain. The double mutant has already set off alarms and is quite scary.
