January 17, 2025 - Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan (72) has been sentenced to 14 years in jail in a land graft case while his wife, Bushra Bibi (50) has been sentenced to seven years. The sentence was delivered today by an anti-graft court in a land corruption case related to the Al-Qadir Trust.

Judge Nasir Javed Rana announced the verdict in a make-shift court in a Rawalpindi jail where the former cricketer has been lodged since August 2023 on various charges.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed the case against the former PM, his wife and six others in December 2023. They had been charged with causing a loss amounting to 190 million pounds (PRs 50 billion) to the country. Khan was indicted on charges that he and his wife were gifted land by a real estate developer while he was in power, from 2018 to 2022, in exchange for illegal favours.

The sentencing was earlier deferred thrice owing to talks between the government and Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf party.

Bushra Bibi, who was out on bail, was taken into custody on announcement of the sentencing.
