In five years, Udaipur sex ratio drops by 30 points

In a disturbing statistic, sex-ratio numbers in Udaipur registered a drop of 30 points from 929 girls per 1,000 boys in 2010-11 to 899 in 2015-16. As per the official data, Rajasthan as a whole registered an increase of 42 points over the same period.

As per social activist, Rajan Choudhary, the improvement in the state was anything but uniform. Some states showed a positive growth in female births while others registered a negative growth. Hanumangarh registered a stunning rise from 783 girls to 100o boys in 2010-11 to 971 girls to 1000 boys. Jhunjunu, Jaisalmer, Dausa and Bharatpur also reported very good growth. On the other hand, Udaipur, Dungarpur and Kota showed a decline in the sex-ratio with Udaipur registering the maximum decline.

Choudhary cited effective implementation of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technique (PCPNDT) Act, along with awareness campaigns held by PCPNDT cell and NGOs for improvement in sex ratio in the state.

Chaudhary said that the state will not rest on its laurel and a block level strict watch will be initiated in the three districts of Udaipur, Kota and Dungarpur
