Forbes’ list reveals India’s tycoons have surpassed a collective trillion dollar milestone
Forbes has released its 2024 'India’s 100 Richest' list which shows that this year has been exceptional for the country’s billionaires. The wealth of India’s tycoons has surpassed a collective trillion dollar milestone, reaching $1.1 trillion. And from 2019, the wealth of the top 100 richest individuals in the country has doubled.
As per Forbes, the total wealth of India's richest individuals has surged to $1.4 trillion, or Rs 92 lakh crore. In the past 12 months alone, their wealth has risen 10% rise, increasing by $316 billion or Rs 26.53 lakh crore. Mukesh Ambani alone leads with $119.5 billion, followed by Gautam Adani at $116 billion and Savitri Jindal at $43.7 billion. Several billionaires saw their wealth rise by at least $1 billion this year while four new billionaires have joined the 2024 Forbes list.
Mukesh Ambani, chairman and MD of Reliance Industries, holds the top spot with an estimated net worth of of $119.5 billion, or Rs 10.03 lakh crore across diversified assets. He is however the second biggest gainer in dollar terms, adding $27.5 billion this year.
Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, holds the second position on India’s richest list. He has come up as the highest earner this year with an earnings of around $44 billion, or approximately Rs 3.70 lakh crore. His net worth has increased by 71% with total wealth surging to $116 billion or Rs 9.74 lakh crore. Ambani’s grew by $27.5 billion, or Rs 2.30 lakh crore, marking a 30% increase in his net worth.
Among the new billionaires to join the 2024 Forbes list are Sarath Reddy, founder of Hetero Labs, ranked 49th with a total wealth of $3.95 billion. In the 100th spot is Mahima Datla, head of Biological E, with a net worth of $1 billion. Other new entrants include Harish Ahuja of Shahi Exports and Surender Saluja of Premier Energies.
