Govt Cuts Fuel Excise Duty; Udaipur Petrol & Diesel Prices Stay Unchanged

India slashes excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 per litre amid Middle East crisis; Udaipur fuel prices remain unchanged despite the move

 |

Udaipur, March 27, 2026 – The government of India has sharply reduced excise duty on fuels – by Rs 10 per litre on both petrol and diesel. This change has been announced with immediate effect, as per a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The excise duty on petrol was slashed to Rs 3 per litre from Rs 13 per litre while the excise duty on diesel has been cut from Rs 10 per litre to zero.

These cuts in excise duty is aimed at preventing further rise in fuel prices and reduce losses of oil marketing companies (OMCs) because of the ongoing Middle East crisis which has led to supply disruption. The Strait of Hormuz is a key oil route and its passage disruption has affected supply and prices globally. India imports 90% of its crude oil, making it highly vulnerable.

Immediate price drop by petrol pumps for the consumer is unlikely but the government initiative may prevent sharper increases going forward.

Retail prices in major cities are still largely unchanged for now. In Udaipur, too, the latest petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged from yesterday and the duty cut has not prompted any drop in rates. A day earlier, private player Nayara Energy had increased prices on petrol by Rs 5 and on diesel by Rs 3 diesel, showing pressure in the system. The State-run OMCs had hiked premium petrol price by Rs 2 and that of industrial diesel by Rs 22 a litre.

According to Raj Rajeshwar Jain of Udaipur Petroleum Association, fuel prices in Udaipur have remain changed.
