March 17, 2026 - India’s Department of Posts on Tuesday (March 17) introduced a new premium mailing service known as “24 Speed Post” which will provide assured next-day delivery (D+1) for urgent documents and parcels. This launch represents an important initiative taken by the government to enhance and upgrade the country’s traditional postal network and strengthen its position against competitive private courier services.

The  new service will focus on priority handling, faster transportation through air networks and specialised processing systems to ensure that shipments are delivered within a strict 24-hour timeframe. In addition, a supporting service called “48 Speed Post” has been introduced, offering delivery within two days (D+2).

During the initial rollout phase, the service has been launched in six key metropolitan cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. It will be gradually extended to other parts of the country, say authorities.

The “24 Speed Post” offers facilities like OTP-based secure delivery, real-time tracking, seven days of the week operations and SMS notifications. Additionally, customers may benefit from a money-back guarantee in case the delivery does not meet the promised timeline.

The service also caters to business users by providing options such as bulk pickups, centralised billing and system integration, making it especially useful for e-commerce and corporate sectors.
