Indian Embassy confirms release of 119 Indians from Kuwait Jail“They are safe and there are no complaints or any cases of harassment”, said Vidhu .P. Nair, Charge De’ Affaires at the Indian Embassy of Kuwait, while addressing the media on Sept 24.

This statement was given on the current issue concerning the flash raid on Sept 19 by Kuwaiti authorities in which they arrested more than 1000 Indian workers on Khadim Visa, most of whom were from Rajasthan.

Nair told media personnel that no detainee has been deported to India so far; however 119 workers are released from different jails after verifying their documents and confirmation by their sponsors.

This is the first time that the Indian Embassy has released any official statement concerning the arrest. This could very well be due to the pressure built from the Indian Home Ministry and Rajasthan State Government.

According to the news published in Kuwait Times, Nair informed that detainees are kept in 40 different police stations around Kuwait and consulate officials have already visited several detention centers to check upon the workers who were arrested for alleged visa transgression.

Nair stated that Kuwait authorities have not shared any information with them before conducting the raid and after it.

“Our officials visited Qadsiya, Rumaithiya, Salwa, Bayan, Jabriya, Khaitan and Daiya police stations on Thursday 20 Sept and met the expatriates detained there” said Vidhu. P. Nair.

Nair told journalists, “We hope that detainees with valid visa will be released soon”.
