Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that Indian Railways will never be privatised and will remain with Indian government.

Private investment needs to be encouraged for efficient functioning. 

The Union Minister was replying to a discussion in Lok Sabha on Tuesday where he stressed that Indian Railways is a government body and shall remain so. 

In the discussions going on in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that Indian Railways will never be privatised. Indian Railways is a government body and it will continue to be with the government of India.

He stressed on the necessity of encouraging private investments for efficient functioning of railways. He also added that if the public and private sectors come together, the country can progress towards high growth and also create employment opportunities.

The minister also said that Indian Railways has been focusing on passenger safety and no deaths have been reported due to rail accidents in the past 2 years. The last death due to train accident happened in 2019 in the month of March.

Investment in Railways has been hiked to 2.15 lakh crore under the Modi government in 2021-22. Railway Board Chairman Suneet Sharma said that Indian Railways has continued to be the driving force of the Indian economy.
