UNESCO Adds Six More Indian Sites to Tentative List

Currently 43 sites from India are inscribed on UNESCO’s official World Heritage List

Udaipur, March 15, 2025 - India has added six more sites to UNESCO’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites. These include national parks, ancient temples, and historic monuments. For the first time, India hosted a World Heritage Committee meeting in 2024. During the event, the Moidams (mound-burials of the Ahom Dynasty in Assam) received the UNESCO World Heritage tag.

UNESCO Included the Following Six Sites:

  1. Kanger Valley National Park (Chhattisgarh)

  2. Mudumal Megalithic Menhirs (Telangana)

  3. Ashokan Edict Sites (Multiple States)

  4. Chausath Yogini Temples (Multiple States)

  5. Gupta Temples in North India (Multiple States)

  6. Palace-Fortresses of Bundelas (Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh)

With these additions, India now has 62 sites on the tentative list. Currently, 43 sites from India are inscribed on UNESCO’s official World Heritage List.
