India’s Agroclimate zones needs a restructure

We have disturbed and destroyed nature’s resources for our greed, which has resulted in various natural calamities. It’s time now that based on political, social, economic and environmental dimensions we have to work on sustainable development.

These were the thoughts that were discussed on the first day of the five day workshop “Climate Change, Disaster Management and Sustainable Development” organized by Human Resources Ministry, Govt. of India’s organization National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) that was held at Vidyabhawan Polytechnic College.

Delegates from Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab are participating in the workshop based on Climate Change, Sustainable Development and Disaster Management.

Inaugurating the workshop, Vidya Bhawan Society’s President Riaz Tehsin said, “Today’s development has led to nature’s suicide (ecocide). And in such times, the nature and man can only survive if we adopt Gandhiji’s views of balancing both man’s greed and nature’s preservation.”

Political thinker Prof. Arun Chaturvedi defined development as the expansion of options as well as participation of citizens on every level.

Rural Development Department, NITTTR Chandigarh’s Prof. U.N. Rai said that the way the climate is changing, according to that India’s Strategy makers and scientists should work on restructuring of the 15 defined Agroclimate Zones.

Principal Anil Mehta told that discussions will be held on various topics like climate change, sustainable development and disaster management.
